PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The brief for this project was straightforward — the client wanted a hand rendered cartoon of herself and a poster that felt fun and exciting to a young audience. The poster advertises a new English learning programme in which, tapping in to their conversational English skills while performing day-to-day activities such as reading, playing the recorder, or doing sports, students can improve their confidence in the language.

THE CONCEPT
THE CONCEPT
My first concept for the illustration involved the character of Ms. Nici playing a recorder to a room of children singing in English. I moved away from this design, opting for a simpler image that related more to the learners' end goal—a better understanding of English.
My main inspiration for the illustration style came from classic Disney cartoons. I wanted it to feel easily approachable and accessible and immediately familiar to children. To boost the appeal of the poster I went for a soft hand script font and a slightly calmer colour palette.

THE DESIGN
THE DESIGN
The design is inviting and it delivers the key information in straightforward language. When considering my audience I wanted to keep the layout clean and spacious, with easily legible text. To complement the bright energy of the main character, I chose to use a calm yet bright colour palette and a friendly rounded script font.
The font and colours welcome the viewer in and the layout allows them to navigate the poster with ease. The imagery serves as a hook, enticing people to engage with the content without overwhelming them with information.

THE EXECUTION
THE EXECUTION
This project was a joy to work on. It ended up being a relatively quick process, the whole project taking roughly two weeks. I mention this because I think sometimes unassuming briefs can be overcomplicated with flashy creative waffle and we lose track of the end goal. I always work closely with my clients to get to the heart of who they are, what they want to achieve, the message they want to tell, and how they want to tell it.
I was aware that this project marked the start of a new brand. The programme aims to expand to web courses and further programmes. The final design serves as a good foundation and leaves room for the visual identity to grow over time with the brand.
